I feel bad for people who have felonies. Is it hateful to say that even if you have the slightest misdemeanor your working life is pretty much over? Even one arrest can screw things up for you. Now you are legally required to disclose your status. In a time where millions of people with clean records can't get a job, being a felon puts you in the back of the line. If companies use legitimate background check companies that are FCRA (Fair Credit Reporting Act) compliant to run their background checks, then they will only show the last 7-10 years (depending on the laws of your state) of criminal convictions (not arrests, deferred adjudications, etc). Unfortunately there are still other ways to obtain information that goes beyond that window, but the FCRA was established to help people get over their past criminal and credit history mistakes.
