I know you are always supposed to give it to the manager and nobody else but this is for people who give them to employees unknowingly. Let's say I filled out a job application and went in dressed good and handed it to the employee at the service desk or wherever. They would say "thank you" but they aren't hiring at this time, or so they say. What is stopping this person from throwing my application in the trash or not giving it to a manager? Even if it has my personal info like SS#, name and address. What do you think?
Nothing "stops them" but I've worked at a retail place for years and I've never seen any employee discard the form. They put it in a pile with the others and they actually do get held for a year or whatever the term is. Employees will sneak a peek and snicker about a terrible resume, but I've never seen one discard one. As for the Social Security Number, that is a risk, but on a paper application I never put it down anyway.
I find it hard to believe that you can still walk into a place and hand them an application.
What is the employee to gain by trashing your application? I'm sure an application or two has ended up in the trash or being run through the shredder but I don't see that as something the vast majority of people are motivated to do.
Holy cow! Eleven months. You are making a big and, in all probability, an incorrect assumption that the person taking the apps is being replaced or will be losing hours.
Yes they do. The reason why employees would be eager to throw away applications is because they are afraid of losing hours. Now stop bothering me about it.
