Maybe try for a Home Health position. If you like traveling about & don't mind paperwork. You need good assessment skills. Pay used to be good there for that. Should be openings. When I applied for jobs out of state, never got any bites, but that was yrs. ago, maybe it's different now? I think an RN can land a job anywheres if you're not picky at first anyways.

There is a demand....that facilities can't afford.

I just don't see these old nurses that want to leave.
I've known many nurses that used to work as other professionals but are now back in the nursing field, crowding it up.

Thanks again for everyone's input. I am currently a home hospice nurse with experience in direct patient care as well as in management. I'm going to apply at several different positions including home health and hospice, as well as med/surg, etc. I'm not picky initially, just want to get a job to get us down there. On salary.com, the rate of pay in the Jacksonville area is the same rate of pay I'm getting now, unless that's incorrect. The cost of living is lower, however. I have seen studies that show Florida projecting an increased demand for nurses in the next 10 years. Anyway, time will tell! I'll post once I start applying for jobs and update everyone if I'm able to get any interest.

The issue is that the standards are being raised. 2 year RN degree...vs. 4 year degree. Two year degrees are becoming marginalized. Relegated to long term care and hospice. Where I work, only nurses with a four year degree, BSN. Are hired.

Yes! The last 5 or more years, big movement to hire BSN's. I saw it in Phoenix. Hospitals only hiring them, ADN's for NH's, etc. NO LPN's being hired almost anywheres in metro. The states wouldn't do the BSN requirement so the employers are I guess.

That's what I was talking about Nancy! If the RN is flexible, there is a job. And yes, increasingly the BSN or a BA in something is a real asset.
