That was kind of odd of her to ask if was OK to talk since they scheduled the interview for that specific time and date.
It sounds like your nerves got the best of you, which can happen.
Practice out loud or do a fake phone interview with a friend. It was good that you wrote things down, however you don't want to do the word for word descriptions. Write something in your own words that briefly describes what they do to cover that question.
And do every phone/in person interview offered, that will help you in the long run.
Best of luck.
Yes, I thought it was odd too. I think maybe with her asking that question it just set the phone interview off the wrong foot to start. Why wouldn't it be ok? We decided it was going to be at 1 pm on Tuesday.
I think I may look into doing some mock interviewing. I am also going to a job fair on Friday,,,but already I am stressed about it.

It is really just a common courtesy to ask that nothing more. Job fairs.............may be ok for entry level.......just plan on getting your practice there for mock interviews. For an experienced sales rep like me job fairs are a waste. Full of Enterprise Rent a Car and Credit Card Processing, basically only sales job with high turnover.

I have been to job fairs before, so I know how they work. Lots of long lines. But if I can make a good impression with just one of the companies I am interested in, it may pay off. I just have to tell myself...."now you are only going there for meaningful conversations...this is not a formal interview." I think I will be less stressed.
Well I didn't know she was going to be so stiff in her questions right out of the gate. I thought they kind of ease you into the questioning...not after 2 seconds on the phone "tell me what you know about our company."
The hang up was a reaction, not something I planned. But I do admit I needed to be more prepared.
How, specifically, is "tell me what you know about our company" a difficult question?
I never hung up, but I did chicken out of going to a scheduled interview. It was at a location in downtown Dallas. I'm not from the city, and I drove there 3 hours early and just panicked. I couldn't figure out how the paid parking lots or parking garages worked, and there was so many ppl walking around my vehicle and traffic that I felt so far out of my element. I was afraid I would get stuck in a parking garage or my vehicle would be towed. I drove around and around in circles, and finally just decided to go home. I never called the lady back. It was too embarrassing to explain why I was a no show, and I don't think they would have hired a guy who couldn't freaking figure out how to park downtown. I felt so horrible and defeated on the drive home.
Parking downtown is horrible. I am in Los Angeles and I HATE parking downtown. Not only do you have to deal with paring, the streets are all one way. And, I LOVE downtown, have no issues driving in traffic, etc...but HATE parking!
Was wondering if any of you hung up on a phone interview before? I feel awful but I did do that. Had a phone interview yesterday with a company that I really wasn't interested in working for but I really need a job- I have been laid off since November 2012.
The HR interviewer just got into the interview full force in the beginning. She called me and asked if this was still a good time to talk and I said yes. Then the next question that came out of her was "what do you know about our company?" I proceeded to tell her and started flubbing up my words and I hung up. She called back and I didn't answer and then she emailed me and said we got disconnected and to call her at her number.
I replied to her email about 20 mins. later and just came up with this...."I am so sorry about the disconnection. I am not sure what happened. I have been having problems with my cell phone. I am not near a land line right now, so I will have to reschedule the interview."
She hasn't replied and I really don't want to continue the interview. I just feel so bad that I did this and lied.
Have any of you done something like this or am I the only one in the world that has done this?
Thanks
Well you stated that you really didn't want the job and maybe the disconnection was a confirmation that the job wasn't for you

Oh reminds me loved doing sales appts. in downtown with bums dirtying my window and then demanding money. $14 parking oh joy in 2001!

It was for a research office job and the company's website was confusing to me. I knew what they did, but had a hard time telling it back to her without stating the same words to her within the company website.

Yes, true...but I should have contacted her before and said I didn't think it was a good fit for me instead of what happened.
Well, you live and learn in life.
