I'm currently employed at a job that is less than desireable. A friend at another company passed my resume to their recruiter who contacted me. So far I've completed a phone interview and passed an online aptitude/personality test.
A couple days later the recruiter emails me asking to schedule an in person interview and asked me to send some dates that would work. I called an left a voicemail saying we need to talk so we can find a time that works around my current work schedule (this was Thursday). No response Friday. Monday morning she emails me saying she was out of town Friday and that I can call her anytime today to connect. I called once in the morning, again a lunch, left her one voicemail. I also sent an email stating I wouldn't be available to talk the rest of the day but I threw some dates/times at her anyway that would work for me. It's Wednesday and I haven't heard back.
Is this cause for concern? Could she just be busy or did something happen? When would be the best time to follow up? I was planning on calling again Thursday (3 days later).
i'd say it's worth it to follow up once. i would e-mail, personally. i don't like to call people unless it's really time sensitive for some reason (like if i have an interview tomorrow and they still haven't gotten back to me with a time or directions or something else important).
but something probably just came up. i just scheduled an interview for friday that i did a phone screen for almost 3 weeks ago - the person i spoke to just couldn't get everyone involved to settle on a date until a couple of days ago. time goes by a lot faster when you're on the other side of the fence, and your "this is taking foreeeeveeer" is their "oops didn't get to that today"!
I would call her at an off time when you will probably reach her 6-7PM. She is most likely just busy. You would be surprised how people pick up the phone when they think its someone they know. When you catch her off guard just say oh I have been so busy haven't heard from you when can we meet in person and give her two times and close.
This isn't through a 3rd party recruiter. Most larger companies have internal recruiters.
I have found the internal recruiters to be generally good and professional.
