Why doesn't anyone here ever try sales? Seriously, car dealerships will take anyone with a pulse to sell cars, or park cars, or wash cars. Yes its commission only, but usually against a draw. Its something resembling a job, you could actually make a decent living at it if you find you have talent for it, and its something to add to a resume that shows you're making an effort. Get some experience and make a little money and you can go for an insurance license and sell that. Or anything else.
Is it too hard to consider standing around in a lot and talking to people? Is it too much work? Is it "beneath" you? You don't need a degree or a skill in anything but flapping your jaw, and I can honestly observe that there are plenty of people here good at that.
not everyone is cut out for sales. there is a skill to selling that is more than just "flapping your jaw".
but yeah, it can work out very well for some people. personally i find the tactics you have to use hokey and in some cases kinda unethical. i don't think i could do it. i actually interviewed for a telemarketing job once - they had me do a mock call and i was told i listened too much, haha. i'm not out of work though, so i have no need to consider that kind of work anyway.

I believe thats what I said, but you don't know until you try. And even if it doesn't work out, its still there that you tried, and I guarantee you'll learn something.
I say this as a person who sold cars for 4 months. Green as grass. Its still on my resume. Its not looked down upon, its looked on as experience. It was excellent for networking. Its a good thing to say to a a hiring manager that "I tried it, but I found it didn't match with my personal ethics".
And I met my fiancee there. :-)
It also falls under things I can go back to if I want/need to. Been there, done that, can do it again if I have to.
I've been unemployed for over 3 months. I had never been unemployed longer than 3 weeks before this time. I am getting less and less interest in my resume.
I have had several interviews but cannot seem to win the position. Doesn't help that a major company laid off a couple hundred people that are looking for the same type of work that I am. Time for a career change I think. This is going to hurt the pocket book.

I am beginning to consider it. LOL But standing around a lot in the Florida Heat in summer is going to be brutal. I like cars. I like sales. I like people.
Take a simple chemist position. You need a chemist that can operate an HPLC, a GC/MS, FTIR, troubleshoot the equipment, develop methods and data quality standards. Instead you report:
Need a chemist with a degree and 5 years experience operating a 5975b Mas spec doing pesticide analysis for PCB's and 5 years expereince operating an Agilent 1290 UPLC system (not even sure it's been arruond that long) for bacterial toxins.
And that is just the start. Throw HR into the mix and
-We won't hire anyone over the age of 40
-We won't hire anyone unemployed
-We won't hire anyone who doesn't score perfect on our psychometric testing
-We will then psychoanalyze you at the interview and if you don't seem like someone we'd like to go drinking with we will reject you
-If we find out you've ever been fired in your life or ever had a supervisor not like you we will reject you
-BTW we'd like you to work via a temp agency so we don't have to pay you benefits, a reasonably salary, give raises or career development, and we can shield ourselves from employer laws.
No wonder employers aren't finding people to hire.

there are definitely ads out there that require, say, 10 years' experience in xy or z programming language or program that has only been around for 5 years! that's always fun.
The propaganda is from you! Making speeches about there are NO jobs...BS. My job is hiring...I'm no "good ole boy" in his 40's or 50's. I am 23 and we need people....all over Ohio there are jobs. Move over here....I'm tired of this BS.
Even if I did when I got there you would be lecturing me about "attitude" and how you can't get me the job. If I walked in there I would be lucky to get my application handed to a manager if one of the employees didn't throw it out first.
I don't think sales is a good option when you are unemployed because it's a SINK or SWIM position and you can be right back where you started from and unemployed again.

Side Job........YES Main job.........NOPE
Yes it separates the girls from the women. Not all sales are full commission. Plenty are an hourly wage, some are hourly plus commission.
