I worked in the HR dept. for about a year and their behavior was absolutely bizzare. Don't try to figure it out. The way they hire makes not sense. Just keep on plugging. I remember one HR recruiter said she would throw out a resume just because she didn't like the font or formatting on the resume. It was mostly women and they were just unbelievable the way they treated people.
WHAT.
Please tell me that you're joking. They threw out resumes over a font?!

Our HR manager at one of my last jobs didn't know how interviews were being conducted or used. She just administered the math quiz for the phone receptionist job and told people how to sign up for benefits.

It's not true ... it's just excuses that people make.
if you look at the first post, someone did a study that determined that it is in fact true that your chances of getting a call back decrease with the length of your unemployment, regardless of any other factors.
westphillydude's personal experience does not negate statistical evidence and neither does your assertion that it's just an excuse.

I think if u r applying to positions you had in the past there is a good chance of being called back no matter how long u been unemployed

Really I dont see this and I apply to retail which most of my work experience is with. If I went to other options, it wouldn't really work because I wouldn't have enough "relevant" experience.

If someone has the right resume and relevant experience I don't know how they can't receive a call. If you apply to 10 of those jobs u should get a call back from atleast 2 of them
it's not impossible to get a call back when you are unemployed. but this study shows that the chances decrease the longer you are. that's all.
