It used to mean that they were interested in you as a candidate. Now, I think that many executives hand them out to flaunt their titles.

Maybe after reading these posts I should stop giving mine out. I do it at the beginning of the interview, so the candidate can refer to it and not have to worry about forgetting my name, hopefully putting them more at ease.

I've had to call back and ask for names and spellings so I could send a thank you note. I wish they'd handed me a card. If you don't want it, throw it away. Simple.

Last time, I sent a got business card and sent a thank you card was in '08. I went from $12/hr to $37.5k/year.
It is a 2nd chance to restate why you should be hired.

My experience has been that the interviewer only offers the business card if they are interested in you. If the interviewer is not interested then you have to ask for the card
