I worked at this location a year or two ago for a temporary assignment helping them out. I was there for a couple of weeks. They liked the work I did, and we all got along well. So when they get my resume, they'll recognize my name.
I have the email address of one of the people in the department the job is in, so I could get the supervisor's email through them.
My question is - is there any worth in emailing the supervisor telling him I've applied and am interested in the job?
He's obviously going to see the resume and remember my name. Would you view it as a good thing, too pushy, etc?
You shouldn't email the supervisor. But you should email the person you do know, and let them know you've applied and ask them to put in a good word for you.
I would reach out to the person you do know. If they like you they might forward your email to the supervisor. Having someone vouch for you can make all the difference sometimes.
To be honest though, the supervisor is more familiar with my work than the worker. I worked directly with him (supervisor) on several projects so he has a good idea of what I'm capable of and how I interact with others.

If you know the supervisor, then it is probably ok to drop him (or her) a brief note. If you do not know them, then go through the person you do know.
