It dates you... it's sort of like an aol.com. I took a career workshop and was told that hotmail and aol are both outdated and using them on your resume sort of puts you behind the times.

You should use a gmail or yahoo account....something that's current. I use my college alumni email for work as it validates that I have a college education.

If you have a hotmail account, you can easily get an ***@outlook.com alias for your account if you think it looks better.

I've been using hotmail since the birth of the interwebs. People will use the phone. Email is mostly for sending files to sign (from HRpersonnel) and maybe for 'bad news'. Most agents will remove contact info

A hotmail.com domain is now "unprofessional"?!

Not counting the "captains of industry" who contribute to this website from their executive chairs in mom's basement, is there anyone out there who actually employs real people at a real company, who would seriously look at a resume or CV, and say to themselves, "I believe this person's choice of email providers is... unprofessional... therefore I shall not hire this person."?

I have, honestly, seen resumes where someone uses an email address like "torpedo_jugs_69@hotmail.com", and that's obviously not going to be a selling point for most resumes, unless the person is a stripper.

it's not a big deal unless you're looking at really cutting-edge tech jobs. that's the only kind of job where keeping up on e-mail provider trends could be seen as important at all. even at those companies, hotmail's not as embarrassing, as, say, aol. for most places, just keep your e-mail alias professional and the domain doesn't matter.

I had @seductive.com and @mindless.com once. I was told I was tripping the company network security each time I email myself some links for reading at home

Go with an Outlook.com email address. Very professional and very user-friendly. Have not had any problems with an Outlook account.

No, you look out of touch. Use a gmail address or yahoo, if you really have to. I guess @mac and @ outlook would be acceptable too, but keep it simple and use @gmail.
