How many applications do you fill out per week? Do you apply for crappy jobs or only ones specific to your field and interest?
After I graduated college, I was filling out applications for anything and everything just to have some sort of income. I started out with probably 15-20 applications a week but with minimal calls for interviews even at menial jobs it ended up in a roller coaster type cycle. Thankfully employed now, however in a year I get to start the whole process over again once I get ready to leave the military.
I broke my applications down by field. In my field (higher Ed management) I was filling out 3-4/month, which got me 2+ interviews/month.
Outside of my main field, I probably filled out 3-4/week, which got me one interview every 3 months or so.
Vastly different success ratios.
Keep in mind that I was applying for Director level or higher positions, both inside and outside of my main field of expertise. I was not interested in accepting anything much lower.
All while my home was on the market which was from January - May of this year...I was getting phone interviews left and right as Im trying to relocate to another state. However now that the house has sold...Im barely getting 1 interview a month.....But it figures. Now that I've got the house sold and free to move....I can't even get an interview.....
Since last June I have applied for roughly...80 jobs. I have received about 5 calls for interviews, went through with two interviews, and received no job offers. My field is mental health counseling.
The career/job counseling field was shrinking in non-profit in 2012 and it's even worse in 2013. But I averaged only 1 interview a month and a total of 6 for the year
When I was ready to leave the field that's when I got a call for the job I have now
If it can help I'm carpenter good one. I work like self-employed and every day I have a few calls for projects. If I would start call companies I would be capable start at Monday at a doze places. Notice I'm real one with references and portfolio. I have way to much job then I can handle like self-employed, not touching employment field. Maybe is trade way for some of you?
before I get a fulltime last year. I got like 15 phone interview/ 3-4 in-person interview per month. This is IT for either software engineer or developer.
