I am starting to think there is truth that these places actually do create fake job listings. There's one in my area that's always advertising for these "great" positions and I have noticed that most of them don't post a salary rather they say "up to $35 a year" for entry level. Automatically I know that is a scam, a company isn't going to pay that here for a basic receptionist/clerical position. That pays around $10 a hour here.
Then there's office team with great jobs like "adaptable receptionist" "energized file clerk."
I play the game and do the online app, then the standard testing etc. the agencies tell me they don't have anything at this time.
Are they really just trying to get people to come in so they can justify their own jobs? Please tell me it's not this bad everywhere.

Yes, it's true staffing agencies do have fake job postings in order to lure candidates in. They would bring them in just to "chat" about potential opportunities but none specific. Also they fish for information in order to get business from your references. Lame on the staffing agencies part. Moderator cut: snip

In the end, there are good recruiters and bad but because there are so many rotten apples I don't trust anyone of them. Proceed with caution.

I have worked for 3 different agencies here so far. 1 was for a temp to perm which was for a awful company, the other 2 were just 1 day assignments. Both of those companies were good (1 seemed like a dream company, so I made sure to ask for extra work so I was busy my whole shift, and spoke with hr at that company just to let them know they could call the temp agency and I'd enjoy working for them again).
I've had the Indian recruiters call and I fell for it sending my résumé and info so I'd be considered for their great opportunity. Of course they never called back.
I'm just frustrated with the lack of jobs at the moment but the temp agencies say they have these great jobs, which is false. I have to keep being positive and hopefully something will change soon.
I believe westphilly may be right with employment slowing down in August. Thankfully were almost in sept.

I'm hoping so because its very slow here now. I suppose I should look at it as giving me more time to research the few companies that are hiring, but it's not a comfortable feeling.

I know the frustration by all these employment/temp agencies by seeing what my friend goes through: Being told there's "plenty" of work, but there isn't. Wanting RECENT expereience. Now my friend has about 10 yrs experience, but not for a while, so it's not considered recent, so he still doesn't get jobs! That's the part that really stinks!

If this is how all these employment agencies operate, they all need to close up!

Of course their listings are fake. I thought everybody knew that.

Companies use temp agencies to fill jobs quickly. If the temp agency cannot supply reasonably trained workers almost immediately they will lose business to a competing agency.

The solution from the temp agencies POVERTY is to have a pool of people to call on at any time. Therefore they are constantly recruiting for the type of jobs they supply temps for, but at the time of recruitment you are most likely being placed into a queue for the future.
