Yes. For the same reason you are interviewing multiple candidates, I am exploring multiple positions. Obviously it would be a violation of confidentiality for you to disclose who the other candidates are, for similar reasons I will not disclose my other potential opportunities.
Use the Bill Clinton semantics answer.... "Not at this time." The logic being that you cannot be in two interviews at the same time...
And here I was thinking that you would suggest the OP saying, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman..."
I think the employer asking might be a way for them to get some salary negotiating leverage against you but that's just me. If they don't think you have any other offers, their initial offer might be lower than usual.
I would not ever give company names...would they like to tell you the names of their other interviewees? I like the vague answers "exploring multiple opportunities". I would not be shy by saying that you are also in the final stages of negotiation as with these other "opportunities".
I love how when the employment market is in favor of the employer, they tend to act poorly as they have the power. Then employers complain when the market is good for job-searches that have no loyalty.

See, I think that can be best done other ways. In how you present yourself and really, how you interact with them from beginning to end. Too many people seem overtly desperate when interviewing, IMO.
The answer to this is always yes to show that you are active and others may be interested. You need not and should not go into many details beyond that. I've been asked a number of times, but they never asked for details such as with whom or exactly how many. I don't think telling them the names of the companies hurts or helps when it is true, unless you are a high ranking, sought after candidate that they might want to keep away from competitors. Most of us aren't in that position.
Personally, I always let the potential employer know I am talking with other people/companies. Even if they don't ask, I'll work it in. I also almost always use it when negotiating salary.
The way I present it depends on who I am interacting with (a head hunter, the hiring mgr, or an HR rep.) and where we are in the process.
yes keep it to a one liner like timber said "I'm exploring multiple options and I'm looking for the best fit/opportunity"
