I get a few recruiter messages or calls every few months. Most begin with telling me how talented and skilled I am, and how I would be such a great fit for their company. You have a quick chat with them only to never hear from them again, even it you're the one trying to contact them! I've heard the same from many colleagues. Recruiters seem to blindly "pool" people for jobs even if they have no or little skill in the needed areas for the job. Hell, I've been contacted by recruiters for programming jobs they thought would be wonderful for me and I don't have an ounce of programming experience! I'm an designer!

But back to the topic, anyone ever have a good experience working with a recruiter? Get a job from one or something similar?

It they actually work in the HR department of a company they might of be some value. However, if they are headhunters, they are generally useless. They are just out to make a commission.

I believe you are talking about third party recruiters. Agencies are popping up everywhere these days. Most of these are fishing for leads through your references you provide them and are often people who could not find other kinds of work themselves.

Kinda, I received job offers through them, but I did not accept (headhunter). He got me in doors I would never have otherwise.

I doubled my salary through a recruiter, 5 years ago. It was a permanent placement. The employer had a contract with a few agencies. I saw the same recruiter arrive with a new candidate throughout the year.

Have never gotten a position, freelance or FT, through them. I'm at the point of being done with them.

Through my career (IT) I have had job offers through recruiters five times. Two that I accepted, three that I declined.

There are a lot of "fishers" out there who flatter you in order to get you to give them your resume. They toss that in their "candidate pool" that they then use to sell themselves to companies. "Look Mr HR manager, I have a candidate pool of 500 Financial Analysts to choose from. Use me for your hiring!"

I only talk to them if they have a particular job they are trying to fill and are genuinely considering me for the role. If they wont tell me the name of the company then I wont give them my resume. Ive only worked with one genuine headhunter and I didnt get the role.
