Just asking for work (generic work- I can do anything you need, I just need a job) is rarely going to be successful because you are not offering a particular skill set to the employer. This will only work if the job is for an unskilled person making minimum wage.

You mention that you could be a file clerk, receptionist or administrative assistant. You seem to think that anyone could do these jobs as well as the next person. Giving the impression that you think these are junk jobs that you could be effective in the day you are hired. The professionals in these career fields would strongly disagree.

I actually don't believe that - I've just done those jobs before, and happen to have the audacity to believe that I could do them again. If I thought the jobs were "junk jobs", as a person who's already employed, I wouldn't pursue them. It's just that the qualifications are different and more commonly distributed among the general population than those of a typical laboratory tech, project manager or truck driver.
