You never talk bad about a former employer. It is the kiss of death in an interview. A short answer is sufficient and shift the question to her skills and what she can bring. Nothing wrong about staying home to raise a small child when you don't have any benefits at an employer.

Why not tell the truth, the boss was an *******. Oh wait, that's right, corporate America doesn't like the truth...it can't handle the truth. Seems like you should say it was to take care of the baby.

You see, the corporate 'game' starts before people are even hired.
