So, I've applied to a couple jobs and get to the point of give us a few references, I provide them, get feedback from my reference that they spoke with so and so….needless to say, I get left high and dry with no response from the company. Good or bad, something is better than nothing!
Not knowing how many times this has happened and how much time has lapsed between the references getting a call until now, it's tough to say.
Are you giving the references to a company or a staffing agency or what?
Asking for references generally means they are considering you for the position - but that should come after you have a phone and/or an in-person interview. I wouldn't provide references before getting to the point where I've gone in and met people. Where in the process are they asking for references?
References asked after having phone and in person interview. I know they have spoken to the reference, due to the reference alerting me and wishing me luck…but after that, I hear nothing back from the company. Even if I don't get the job, I expect a response of some sort, without having to 'disturb' by emailing or calling for something, anything
Is there any chance that someone is giving you a bad reference either your referee or a past supervior? If there is any doubt have it checked by a service. It can be a nasty trap where soome sociopath is slandering you behind your back for whatever sadistic reason and you blow job opportunity after job opportunity and noone will ever tell you. I had a Professor that did that.
I would follow up with an email. An email is a lot less "invasive" than a phone call. Just re-iterate your interest in the position. If you want to try and push it, you can ask about a timetable for a decision.
Hmm, I don't think they are slandering me, as I wouldn't put someone down who would be a toss up. But regardless I would like to close the loop with them giving a response of some sort than ignoring my emails and voicemails.
Plus I just saw the job was reposted on LinkedIn, so mixed feelings
Sadly, this type of rude behavior is typical nowadays. Keep interviewing, something great will come up!
