I'm curious about this, because I'm very tempted to type 2 different resumes, one using my given first name and the other using my middle name as my first name. I've read that so many resumes are merely picked out for the choice words that they use and not qualifications so much. I've also read that they can STORE previous submitted online resumes and pick out significant differences in the given work history. I figure that I have virtually nothing to lose since they weren't going to call me anyway if I just chose to be honest.
and how do you explain it when you're middle name gets hired? I'd apply for both but with same resume (or different to tailor to job if different jobs)
You can lose a lot if you start a job with a bad rep, it can even carry to next job if it is a small industry too.

Many other resumes are not reviewed electronically. In our case all applications are online with an attached resume, and as the hiring manager, I review them before HR does. They only confirm that those I select to interview meet the minimum requirements. If I saw two from the same person with different names, they would both be rejected.
