i had my onsite interview w/ a fortune 500 company back in july 3rd (less than 2 wks ago), the hr called me the following monday, asked me about my current salary, my salary expectation for the position that they are hiring, my possible starting date, and whether i have any problem passing background/drug test.
After i answered all the questions, he told me to give me an official offer, he needs approval from upper management and get back to me later this wk.
Didn't hear anything back on thursday, and the wait was killing me, so last friday, i called the hr and asked about the status, he confirmed that an offer has been given and even told me the salary that they are planning to offer me, but at this point, he is still waiting for the official approval.
does any1 know how long it takes for a job offer to be officially approved? i have already told my relatives and close friends about the news, but a job offer is never official until a written offer is received, so i rather get this done sooner than later.

Hold tight... These things take time, especially at larger companies.

You don't want to be a nuisance.. hang in there and congrats.

It depends on the company. I have waited between 3 hours to a week for an offer.

It can take weeks. The reality is that while getting hired may be at the top of your priority list, you are just another piece of paper piled on top of someone else's crowded desk.

Depends on the type of job, size of company, how many other interviews they are conducting, etc.

It took almost a month for my partner to go from verbal offer to written offer at a Fortune 50 company...and then they pulled the offer due to a background check concern from when he was 20 years old and about which he had been forthright all along.

It's not "real" until you punch in for your first day.

Did you finally receive the offer? I'm going through a similar situation.
