So I interviewed for a job over the phone on July 10. I hadn't heard from them in a while so I thought they were not interested. However, today, July 22, they emailed me requesting my *official* transcript. Prior to the interview, I FAXED them my transcript, per their request. Today I emailed them to see if I am still in consideration, and they said yes. They said I should hear from HR in less than a month.
Keep in mind this is the government...I applied early May and interviewed in July. So they are VERY slow.
To be honest, I didn't think I did that well on the interview, but then again I have pretty strong qualifications. For them to request an OFFICAL transcript - even after I sent them the faxed one, at THEIR request - that's a good sign, right? I mean, why else would they want my official transcript, if I don't even stand a good chance? Not like I fudged my grades...LOL
Official transcripts are usually provided with the job application. At least, when I have applied through usajobs, it has been that way for me. So maybe they wanted them to make sure you had a complete application.
What's more solid is that you had an interview at all. I have applied to a few government positions in the past and only one in which there was a lot of communication, but NONE where I made it to a single interview.
Yes, they are very slow. Nevertheless, hold on to the positive signs. As long as nothing is fudged, you might just be okay. I'm wishing you a good end result also. Hope you get the job.
It sounds promising. With all of my government applications, they were completely satisfied with my unoffical transcripts. I was only asked for my official transcripts one time and "I think" that's right before I was about to be offered a position (they ended up not being able to fund the position).
While it sounds, promising, I would absolutely keep looking for other positions. The government hiring process can be insanely slow at times. I was a government contractor and I worked with new employee onboarding. There were numerous times where employees didn't start until MONTHS after they received their offer. It was crazy.
Thanks everyone. I'll continue looking for other positions. I'm not going to put my hopes up for this one. It's likely that it's their HR's policy to have official transcripts on all candidates before they proceed to the decision phase. Besides, they only interviewed me over the phone, so the chances are lower. Great interview practice though!
This was in the late 90's, but I was employed with the Federal Courts. They did not request any transcripts until they had pretty much decided on me as their top candidate. Good idea, as you mentioned, to continue your job search until you know something for sure. Oh and by the way, the time frame you mentioned is pretty standard for the federal govt. They take their time in making hiring decisions. They are required to interview a certain number of people and certain percentage must be women/men/black/white, etc. The hiring process must be heavily documented. I applied for the job I was hired for in March and at that time, they had been taking applications for about 6 weeks. It was then almost two months before they started interviewing. They conducted interviews for over a month and then it was another month before I found out I had gotten the job. It was definitely a slow process.
