Yes, you should start OP. of course you should. You want the job right? It's very unlikely that they're trying to pull a fast one on you and get free labor for a week or two. Very unlikely.
If it makes you uncomfortable, you can ask them if you should expect a formal written offer just to queue them.
I mean does anyone really think this place is trying to get free labor? Are they a whole in the wall establishment or do they have actual office furniture and other people that work there? It would be ridiculous not to start.
Hayleyy, after all the interviews you've gone on, and disappointment you've had - why would you respond with, "I'll think about it" when HR asked if you could start Friday?!!!

I agree, terrible response. If they want you to start that seems like a pretty good sign that you've been hired. And if it isn't, you'll probably find out then.
