I am interviewing for a Store Manager's position at Starbucks. I have bad credit and an old bankruptcy. They said they do a background check (I had those before, criminal and drivers license check) and drug screen. They never mentions an actual credit report. I know the can, but as general rule do they check this?
Please, Im looking for people who actually work there or worked there or applied there, not speculative answers
One of my best friends was a SBUX manager and I know she had huge credit issues with her student loans. It didn't affect her at all.
Thanks, thats encouraging. I have some old delinquencies and worry about it. It never hurt any of my other jobs in the past, but I read how strict SBUX is with little things like tattoos and earrings lol
They're getting explicit permission from employees and using social security numbers. A background check means just that, a criminal background check, unless otherwise stated on the application.
I think it would be a waste of time for starbuck's to do credit checks on people. To me, the only jobs where credit checks might make sense are jobs in the financial industry. They want to know someone is responsible with money, before they can work at a job advising others about money management.

Some companies feel that anybody in a financial position, or cash handling position should have good credit, to prevent theft. Other companies feel good credit shows you are responsible. I think it is all crap, as I believe like a friend of mine said the other day, which was "I would have perfect credit if I have stolen or committed fraud from previous employers or customers".
I have good enough credit that I should not have to worry about getting a job if I need to, but I know plenty of people who are good employees that do not have very good credit.

Oh please?!
Is "bad credit" stopping McDonalds, Wendys, Jack-in-the-Box, Macys, Walmart and Target from hiring anyone?
No and it NEVER will stop them.
Which is why I don't understand why corporations where the person isn't dealing with money at all needs to have good credit.
