This coming up Monday, I have an interview with a major corporation. I received the phone call for the interview 2 weeks ago. Ive decided that I want to be fully honest & change some mild, yes MILD "date stretching" on my resume / information before the interview. Firstly, when I initially sent my resume, I had to create a candidate profile & my resume wasnt saved as a pdf file or any file of that matter, it just took my resume & basically did a " fill form" type of thing.
Now, I can still go to my candidate profile & update it because it tells you on your profile that, any time you make changes to your profile, it automatically updates any older information you already had in place.
Would you imagine that HR / Hiring Manager already has my profile / information printed out for my interview in 4 days or do I still have time to update my profile & skate under the radar on this? I obviously dont want to even attempt to do this if its too late & will draw a red flag.
Id appreciate any insight on this matter. Thank You.
To be honest, if you have an interview this up coming Monday, then the interviewer most likely already has a copy of resume forwarded from HR/recruiter.
We wouldn't have called you for an interview without your resume in our hands. A lot of people are off work on Friday as well. I can't see anyone going in on Monday to look you up or print anything off.
Joe, I appreciate the response & thank you. Actually, its my current employer where I stretched my work dates a tad so, would it be in my best interest to ask them not to contact my contact employer, as Ive seen many threads on here that primarily lean towards that route anyhow, of not wanting them to contact your present employer ( for many reasons). Once again, thanks.
You can always ask them not to contact your current employer. Some companies might actually listen to your request.
I don't contact current employers until the applicant has accepted my tentative job offer, subject to background check. Once they have accepted, I do tell them that I will be contacting their current employer. If I were to find date stretching, I would seriously have to consider rescinding the offer.
fishbrains, do you contact the reference they provided for the current job or the HR dept?
I don't usually bother with HR. They usually only give the most inconsequential info such as hire date, separation date, etc . I call the former supervising manager and talk about work habits, adaptability, attitude, etc.
How mild is the date stretching? I would be worried that any changes you make to a profile saved on their system would get flagged. If you are just off by a month or two, you can chalk it up to forgetfulness if someone mentions it?
