I filled out an application for a job at a water company and I finally received a rejection letter 11 months later. I guess I shouldn't complain too much, more than half of the places I applied to didn't even bother to send me a rejection letter. One I even interviewed for and they couldn't be bothered to tell me I didn't get the job.

With online applications why wait for a rejection letter. Apply and forget until you get a response for an initial phone interview.

I think about 3-4 months after the final interview was completed. I forgot about them and ended up getting another offer!

I received some rejections over six months after I applied.

If the water company is a municipality that works like where I used to work previously, the current list of qualified applicants exhausts a year after the posting, so a lot of people won't get rejection letters until then. Conversely, it could be 11 months after you applied that you are called in for an interview.

I think about six months. Yes, most firms are too lazy to send rejection notices.

The funny thing is frankly I was under the impression at one point that all mail notifications for employment were rejections.

Ever receive a interview notice in the mail? THAT is weird. I rejected it at the time because it was flat out unprofessional and they made a major typo (3am? come on now). It was between a holiday and a weekend with no phone number. It's a odd employer I rather not name.

Rejection letters after a application submission doesn't count. Only after a interview

For fed jobs I've gotten them a year or more later.
