Back in 1997 I was bold as hell with my moving plans from Michigan to Maryland. I visited MD a few times before my actual move, and secured a room to rent just to get started. When I got to MD, I had $500 to my name and my fingers crossed to get a new job. I went to the temp agency and they hooked me up with a temp job and became a full-time job a few weeks later. I was very lucky back then.

My next move will be to California and I dare not move out there first without having a job lined up. I will tell potential employers of the area I'm 'currently' viewing apartments for, but that I can't move until I receive a job offer. I'm sure if I'm granted a face to face interview, and I impress them to the point of being offered a job soon afterwards, I could give them a start date 3-4 weeks later. But just moving to LA w/o a job lined up, is too dangerous for me in 2015/2016.

On the resume, list current city and state. Then, put "Relocating to Dallas in April 2015". March is nearly over.

.
That's very good advice!

But how does this work since they want to secure a job before moving?

If they call and ask do you say you are quitting your current job without one lined up and moving in a few days? I'm not sure how good that sounds.

Same way as any other person. They expect their local candidates to quit their current jobs, before starting also.

Company called and asked, if I would relocate for work. I accepted the job offer and started in 3 weeks. I gave the prior employer 2 weeks notice.

I drove around on the weekend and signed an apartment lease with my offer letter as verification. Apartments get people moving to Dallas for jobs all the time.

I showed up to work on Monday as any other candidate. I have lived here in Dallas for over 3 years now. Most people here are transplants for work. I have come across more people born outside Dallas than in Dallas.

You can move whenever you want... Use hostels and couchsurfing

It shows INTENT. At least it's better than keeping the out of state address and appear to be fishing for possible jobs. Most people want to plan their relocation as smartly and securely as possible. I plan to use this tip as I start looking for jobs while planning my move.

If you have no friend or family who will let you get mail at their address temporarily all the "experts" say get a PO Box. You need local ID or utility bills to get a PO Box. None of the articles mention that but that is the case here.
