I know the statistics say 1/2 of teachers leave the profession within 5 years. (I've never witnessed that happening, so I'm not sure where the data comes from.) Any idea where these people are going?
This is my 10th year in the education field. While I love actually teaching, I'm pretty fed up with everything else and I'm ready to leave the profession. I'm not sure where to even start with a job search. I've heard insurance companies hire with any degree. I know a local grocery chain will hire with any degree. I'm not really into sales. I'm not opposed to taking classes/getting a certification/getting a degree, but I really want out now, not later.
I'm great at organizing and putting together schedules. I'm very good at math and I love numbers. (If I could go back to 18, I'd have become an actuary or statistician.) I've also created a lot of my own teaching materials, so I have basic graphic design capabilities.
Prior to teaching, I was a Customer Service Manager in retail, an accountant in a grocery store, and a receptionist at a car dealership.
So, any ideas? Do you know someone who left teaching and what do they do now?
