Hi, I was contacted by recruiter for job position I am really interested in, but I am really concerned that they wont even consider my resume.

Statistics on Glassdoor for this company, under Getting an Interview: Applied Online 70%; Recruiter less than 10%

This is a HUGE difference, should I be concerned? I don't have experience with recruiters at all, but I guess it is less expensive for company to hire without using middleman.

Have you responded to the recruiter at all? If not, just ignore them altogether and apply directly through the company's website. If it's a recruiter that you're already working with, then go ahead and apply through them and hope for the best.

Yes, already responded. I guess I've learned my lesson.
Nothing is over yet, but I know my chances are significantly lower.

Since a recruiter costs big money to the company going with one often can hurt your chances when the recruiter doesn't have an exclusive.

Did you sign anything with the recruiter? If not the ignore the recruiter and go directly to the company. If you have signed something then you will need to go through the recruiter.

Recruiters usually contact me for jobs that don't even exist.

Are you established in your field? I have a fairly niche specialty within a large industry and am contacted by recruiters fairly often. My current job was brought to me by a recruiter, and it's the best job I've had pay/benefits wise. I've found that since it is in their best interest recruiters will help you get the maximum salary/benefits package possible.

I would say if it is a legitimate recruiter than absolutely look into it.

Recruiters are also looking for the best candidate in their pool of people they contact. So that may be a problem, one may put you on the bottom and another may put you on top of the stack if these are 3rd party recruiters(multiple recruiters trying to place candidate on 1 job).

Best last option = Recruiters

Trust me on that one. I have found that many recruiters , to keep their own jobs and show some signs of being productive, will resort to creating false job postings, phony interviews, and one which is the most annoying of all : contacting references when there is no actual job. Watch for that last one.
