We have done two months, in a situation where the person was the best by far, but had just delivered a baby and needed more time before coming to work. That was unusual, 2-3 weeks is more common here. It would depend on the circumstances.

Rich,

As a rule, figure at the Director level and above this may fly but otherwise...not so likely.

Unless this is for a key position that is pivotal to significant circumstances.

A person being hired as a Supplier Quality Engineer whose expertise matches a hiring company's specific situation regarding a quality issue for a certain product/component could be such a person.

An easy example to suggest would be Elon Musk needing to hire a Quality Engineer whose background is rocketry and supplier quality could be such a person. Considering the MM's he has lost with regard to his last few launches, he would, I'm sure, wait the two months if that engineer had the exact same experience.

Someone here is going to say he would not wait to hire such a person but that is not my point- the issue is whether or not a person needing two months to onboard would be considered a significant enough contributor to mitigate the delay of that person's Start Date.

I had such a candidate; twice in fact. One was a GM and the other was in fact a SQE who saved the employer several million dollars just while being interviewed.
