It's been a long time since I've interviewed out of state. This may be a dumb question but what would you wear?

I have done some Skype interviews. I wore business attire, at least on top. Good luck!

Same thing you would wear in an interview on your entire body. It IS an interview. Also, clean up your workspace, especially what will be behind you in the background. NO KIDS in the house. Do your interview from the most professional space in your home (not the kitchen). My interviewer had me get up and point out my favorite book on my bookshelf (I think he wanted to see if I was wearing jammies on bottom LOL).

Completely agree with the previous post. I have interviewed many people using Skype, and we notice everything in your background. We notice random people walking by/popping up, we hear phones ringing and people talking in the background, we notice what you wear, and we notice the state of your environment. And afterwards, when we discuss the interview, we comment on those things.

Dress like you would for the interview, treat it like an interview, try to make sure you are using eye contact to the best of your ability, clean up your space and make sure you are alone so we don't see people or hear distracting noises, etc. Also, if you are looking to another time zone, be sure to clarify WHEN the interview would take place. We always interviewed on skype for out of state, and we were in a different time zone than every other US state. One interviewee assumed we were telling her the interview in HER time zone (why would she assume that??) and she wasn't around. When it got cleared up and we finally held the interview, she actually said some accusatory words about how it was our fault the first interview didn't go off. Not a good idea. She did not get hired.

I had a Skype interview a couple of years ago. I made sure the space behind me was empty. My interviewer, however, was in her bedroom. I could seen her clothes tossed on a clothes rack and everything in her bedroom. It was very disconcerting, to say the least. I didn't get the job; it was very unfortunate since I really would have done well in the position, but I have to wonder if seeing all of that stuff in the background affected my interview.

it was a test, maybe she thought you could tidy up for her?

But why wouldn't someone act professional on either end? I mean, it's skype... you can record the thing with a few clicks of a button. https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1...my-skype-calls
