So, I had a 3 panel interview this morning for an IT position. The head of the IT department was present, along with 2 of the managers. While being asked questions, the middle manager (female) kept looking at her male counterpart and laughing. I am not sure if she was laughing at me, or the questions being asked. Am I just reading too far into this? Anyway, it was awkward nonetheless.

Anyway, I wasn't able to get a real vibe of how it went. I was told I would hear something next week, so it's just a wait and see game at this point.

Have any of you encountered this before?

I haven't encountered that, specifically, but I will tell you that I've been interviewed by a panel before where one of the interviewers kept yawning and acting very disinterested in me. It was the worst. So, I guess I'm telling you that laughing is probably not as bad as yawning and looking everywhere except at you. That was literally the worst interview I ever had and it still upsets me to think about it, because it was a place I really wanted to work at, and I thought I was a fantastic candidate.

You probably are reading too far into it, for what it's worth. Just stay positive and distract yourself in the mean time.

That sucks you didn't get it. She seemed totally uninterested. The other 2 seemed interested. I have no clue what to think, but I'm not banking on it.

You shouldn't have to put up with rude behaviors from the interviewer. I would've asked, while smiling, "Sorry, did I goof and accidentally say something funny?"

Maybe the middle manager is an inexperienced interviewer? It certainly is bad form to laugh unless everyone is in on the joke.

Hemi,

If you are going to be reporting to that woman, you can be looking forward to more of the same.

It's possible she is new at being a manager; that makes it even worse since she will spend her time 'proving' herself, often at the expense of the staff.

I hope you are continuing to look for a position elsewhere.

Sure am! I'm guessing based on that I probably won't get the job offer anyway! I have tons of apps out and UI runs out soon. I'm getting nervous. Soon, I'll be looking at retail employment. Anyone know who pays the best in retail (what companies)?

I'll just get something until I can land a job in my field.

Never been there. But the best you can do is just let it go and move on. There's nothing you can do about it now. Just know that it likely wasn't anything you did.
