Can you get a job locally with a company that has national locations? Hang around long enough to establish a good work ethic and look into getting a transfer. Several companies I have worked for have been happy to find me an opening in a new region when I request a transfer on my dime.

I've moved twice to new cities without having a job lined up. Both times it worked out OK, but I think I was just lucky.
