I've been on at least 5 interviews where they rushed me in to interview several days later. All of them are taking 2 weeks plus just to give me a status, which is usually "there are no updates at this time". What is the point of interviewing if they take their sweet ass time?

I used to ask myself this, too. I suppose it's because there are too many applicants per job opening. Maybe some employers aren't really hiring to begin with- so I'm told. I could never figure this one out, either.

this usually means they're looking for the "right fit" - not just someone that has the qualifications but also personally will be a good fit for the organization and the other workers.

This tends to happen quite often, especially with higher level positions as there's always others that can fill in for the interim while the right person is found.

It depends. With the economy as bad as it is, companies usually get loads of applicants for one position and can afford to be as picky as they want. They're probably just...waiting... to receive more applications and interview more people. At some point eventually, they're gonna have to make some type of decision. Just keep sending out resumes elsewhere in the time being until you strike gold.

Interviews need to be done, and they will be conducted when it is most efficient for the hiring team to do so. Interviews may also take place over several days or several weeks, so there is not a status to give until the process is over.

You have no chance of winning the lottery if you never buy a ticket. Yes, many employers are slow, some may interview and never fill it, but if you want a job you have to play their game. Reading of this complaint so often, I will be very firm with HR about moving things as fast as possible when I hire. Normally I'll make the decision right after the last interview, make the offer the next day and let all of the others know as soon as the offer is accepted and the references have been checked, never more than about a week.

it doesn't mean you're screwed- just means keep looking.. until you have an offer you should continue to apply and interview

Uh... because that's one of the first steps to hiring someone. And that process can take time?

You're simply looking at it from your perspective. You interview, you hear back, and you decide.

However, lots of things may be happening between your interview and when you hear back.

Yeah, I've run into this too, and I don't appreciate it.
