I have an interview on Friday, and I was asked to bring a writing sample. It is for a managerial position in the area of law and courts where writing plays a role, but it does not involve full-time writing.

Any suggestions for a topic? I've been pondering this for three days and am getting nowhere.

Obviously, I don't want to get political, but I don't want to choose something to weak either.

man, people are such sheep.

As if your resume isn't enough writing for the employer to see.

Some people use resume writing services or have others write their resume for them so, no, a resume is not indicative of someone's writing ability.

So who's to say someone didn't write that writing sample for the person?

If your area is law and courts, how about an opinion piece on a recent landmark case?
Not a dissertation, just a casual opinion piece, but in your field.

I'm not quite sure that complying with a request for a writing sample makes me a sheep.

It is a good job that pays very well. They have the right to establish whatever criteria they see fit in selecting who they award the position.

If you cannot make this choice on your own how are you going to make other choices on your own that could be much more important?

Nothing, but it takes a little more work; it will become apparent pretty quick if the work product does not match the exemplar. If the hiring manager wants to, they can also discuss research, thought processes, and findings that someone who did not write the paper would have a difficult time with.

Wow, very nice and helpful.

I have never come across an interview where they wanted a writing sample. Surveying others who may have experience in this area seemed prudent. If someone had a story of something that worked or didn't work, it would help me.

Most of us use this forum as a sounding board for advice from others in the same position of searching for a job in 2015. There are some tremendous people on here who are always willing to share and suggest.

I too try and respond to posts from others needing advice.

It must be nice to know everything.
