just curious!

i've been job searching for about a month and i've applied to 19 jobs and gotten 2 phone interviews and 1 in person interview (3 separate jobs).

i got rejected from 1 phone interview, haven't heard back from the other, and the in person interview is next week.

4 months since downsizing termination after 20+ years . About 50 jobs applied for or inquiries made. Only 2 brief screening inteviews, there are still future possibilities with both.

Its been a tough time. I was told at my age, 56, it would be like that. Didnt believe it then but I do now.

Over the last almost 3 years: 58 interviews/254 applications. I keep a very detailed spreadsheet. I have 3 recently applied for jobs that aren't included in that total yet.

When I was looking for a job in 2008-09 I applied to 5 jobs, and was interviewed for all of them (100%). I got the 4th, then the 5th about 16 months after starting to look. I did have savings and credit to get by on so only applied to jobs I knew I was well qualified for, paid decently, with reasonable commute and that I would enjoy doing. The 4th was part-time, when I started to become desperate, and I quit before starting after getting an offer on the 5th.

0 applications, about 12 interviews/Q&A this year.

I get head-hunted a bit.

oh i guess it would also be useful to mention briefly what kind of work we are looking for.

i'm a nonprofit office manager with some development and volunteer management experience. i'm also searching long distance, about 4-5 hours from my current location. i'm sure someone with really specialized technical skills would have a very different job searching experience in terms of how many jobs they apply to and how many of those lead to interviews.

and mcq, that's brutal! last time i was job searching i had 35 interviews in 8 months and that was kind of crazy! i have no idea how many jobs i applied for but it was a lot.

It's been a while, but I have a pretty good interview rate. I get an interview about 80% of the time, and 2 out of 7 in person interviews results in an offer.

I also only applied to jobs for which I am well qualified, and I also searched almost exclusively out of state because of the niche career I used to be in.

If my memory is correct, last time I looked for a job I applied to about 12 jobs, and had 10 interviews. Two of those were phone only, 8 involved in person site visits. Two jobs were killed for budget/contractual reasons and were not filled by anybody for a couple of years. I received two offers, and withdrew from an active search to take a position.

To be fair, I also applied for jobs outside of my direct field of expertise. I don't recall all of my applications, but it was probably about 30. I got one phone interview, one group interview, and no offers.

I don't really keep count of the jobs I applied to. I probably get one interview out of every four I applied to. I know my interviewing skills aren't good. Out of 21 interviews from the past year, it resulted in only 4 job offers.

I don't think I've even talked to 58 people family friends or otherwise in the last 3 years. At least you're getting past the front door. I've had 8 interviews out of 61 applied.
