Margin paid to temp agency > = cost of paying for benefits.
That's usually not true. It's not just fringe benefits but also taxes and insurance fees.
The idea that fringe benefits are mandatory is quite ridiculous and has an example of our government overstepping its bounds (and I say that as a Constitutional Lawyer).
The solution is to get rid of the middle man and allow the employer to hire employees without fringe benefits. That way it's a win/win. No temp agency and no forced fringe expenses for the employer. This used to exist in a great way with 1099 but the IRS messed that up as well.
This is actually a good idea. At 22 years old I don't care about subsidized health insurance and 401k. They don't have to offer those benefits to me until after a couple years on the job. Just give me paid holidays and a couple sick days and I'm good. Now that they limit the benefits they can get rid of the middle man and not pay the 40% markup. The worker can get paid a competitive wage and they will show more loyalty and trust to the company.
Unfortunately, a lot of companies don't use temp agencies like they should. They don't do the try before you buy approach yet they drag temps out for years to get cheap labor. Companies that abuse the temp system are ruthless.
You should not be exposing yourself as a chemist to toxic chemicals for a company that won't give you health insurance. No matter how many precautions you take there is no way not to be exposed to some level of volatile toxins/carcinogens.

I think we both agree that you should not walk out of the house without health insurance. However, the employer should not be on the hook for providing everyone these fringe benefits. It can be offered as a above the top benefit like many companies do. But shouldn't be a requirement.
Well, different companies have different policies of hiring. Some companies prefer a candidate through a staffing solution and some prefer a candidate who applies directly to the company. So you just gotta put yourself out there and experiment.
My experience with Staffing Solution Providers has been great till now, as I got a good job via a Staffing Services company.

After having them fill up my inbox with completely useless e-mails for some months, I finally deleted my account. Number of useful job leads gotten through them: zero.
Also, they seem to have 'Staten Island' confused with "New Jersey'.
Just finished deleting all their useless spam crap from my in box. Useless.com. Don't waste your time.
