I am currently looking for a job that is better than the one I am currently employed at but I am having trouble getting interviews. Before I got my current position of 15 hours a week at a fast food establishment, I had spent over 6 months applying to every position I could find that I felt was I was able to learn and do. Unfortunately, whenever it comes to the interview I usually have nothing to show as I have very limited skills and experience. I usually have to sell the employer on hiring me based just on my willingness to learn and my word that I am a hard worker. This more than often does not help me as I usually get denied even before the interview stage. I was wanting to know of any advice that I could possibly implement in my job search to have more of a chance of getting an interview and subsequently a job offer.
Do you have time to volunteer? Years back, when I had limited experience, volunteering helped me expand my experience AND I obtained several job leads from it. Try to pick an organization to volunteer with that interests you and attracts professionals. In my case, it was a city symphony and Junior Achievement.
