I have seen these types of ADs on various job websites, that want people with no experience, any race or look, and pays $300 weekly, you just have to call the number, come in and start working. But aren't these all scams? Or are they real? Anyone ever been a movie extra through one of these jobs?
Scams. You call the number and book an appointment and when you go they have you fill out some paperwork and of course you pay a fee for all this. Never hear from them again after the check clears. Dont ask me how I know.

Do a web search, you'll find out enough to know many are scams...
OP: I've knew one guy who got a job as an extra. The movie was being filmed in his hometown and the production company put out a call for extras. Of those who applied, some were chosen, and some were not.
Movie extras are real jobs but it is relative to where you live and if you fit the need. You will ultimately make more money at a real job than trying to wait around for a movie extra job that will pay minimally and not be steady work. Those who I have known to be extras do it for the love of being in a movie or the tv show. NOT because it pays anything close to what a living wage.
Extras are real jobs, but most do not pay well... or pay in an outfit and some food.
Many movies are made in Pittsburgh, and there are several casting calls every year. But you have to meet their criteria to even be considered.
If they happen to be shooting a movie in your area, you can sometimes land a job as an extra. For example, they might need a crowd for a basketball game.
