My brother got laid off on Friday and yesterday he was given the opportunity to interview with a company this afternoon. However when he showed up at the door, nobody was at the door to greet him and he couldn't enter for the interview. He walked off. Was this a permissible no-show or bad of him to no-show period?
How long did he wait? Was it locked? I would have at least called to see what was up, but if there was no one there at the established interview time then that "company" was probably not a company.

I'm not sure on the exact particulars in that situation as I only briefly talked to him about the topic. I've never had anything like that but I would likely wait fifteen minutes tops especially if locked and try to call. I imagine it was locked or restricted entry if he couldn't get in.
at lot of places have restricted access. So it was really odd for him to just leave; and especially to not call first and then think he should have been "greeted at the door?". What kind of work is your brother in?
My guess is that he simply didn't understand the layout or didn't go to the right place. As others have said, there was probably a buzzer somewhere. Or maybe he went to the wrong entrance? I'd have called and driven / walked around the building to look for alternate entrances.
Odd that the company didn't notify him on how to properly get in. I've always had instructions emailed to me. I would have called and emailed the hiring manager just to let him/her know before walking off the premise. And I would have waited for at least 30 minutes too. Hopefully your bro gets another chance.
I would do what others have said - utilize the buzzer or whatever means is there for visitors to gain access. If this did not work, I would have called the person who set up the interview to inform him/herthat I had arrived and needed access.
If one is laid off, one cannot be so hasty as to just walk away from a scheduled interview, even if one was not given the necessary instructions.

IT, he was doing phone system IT before being let go because the small business (and I DO mean small since he was like the 13th employee when he was hired two years ago.) He went to DeVry for it after toiling away in retail, sales (both of those failed) and even restaurant work.

I don't exactly know the particulars but he asked me about it "since I went to school for business" and I couldn't give him an honest answer because this is a weird circumstance. I will say he SHOULD have been greeted at the door and let know of specific instructions, if there was restricted access (I imagine it was since it was locked) and he SHOULD have called (I'm not sure if he did or didn't.)
That said, he did apply elsewhere and has an interview today.
