Hello!

Once I graduate in December I want to start sending out my resume and when I visit the place I want to move. In January when I visit again I want to see if I can apply for jobs in person. However, I live in Maryland and I want to move to outside Pittsburgh PA.

How do I address that in my resume? Should I keep my Maryland address on there? Should I make a note about relocation? I do still have a 724 area code which is for the area that I will be looking in, I thought that might be helpful somewhat.

Any advice would be great! Thanks!

I am assuming you are originally from western PA, and went to UMCP, Towson, or similar for undergrad?

This is pretty easy. Omit your MD address from your resume, although you need to put an address in for the application itself. If you have family in Monroeville, etc you use that address. Then include a brief cover letter.

To whom it may concern,

My qualifications for job X are A, B, C.

It is not evident from my resume, but I did a capstone project on X, which is relevant to your advertised position because of Q. (Or some other relevant accomplishment)

I will be moving back home to Allegheny County in May, and am looking for a position in <my favorite field>. my interests, availability and experience meet the qualification you list in your posting.

Regards....

No, I am not from there and I don't have family there who's address I can use. I'm from Michigan. However, I lived in PA when I got my cell phone and have just never changed the number. I have lived in Maryland for a long long time and went to high school here. I will have an associates degree in legal studies with experience in a law firm. Most lawyers even the one I work for said paralegals can be just fine with the two year degree from an ABA approved school which mine is.

A bit trickier, but not too bad. Change the cover letter, and refer to the time you lived in the area. Say that you are interested in returning.

It's only a few hours away, so you will find somebody willing to take a chance on you.

Thanks! Yeah, it's really not all that far. I think it took me four hours, but there was no traffic in the turnpike when I went in August.
