Is it better to include a period of entrepreneurship in your resume or leave a gap? (applying, paycheck)

It was an internet company that I tried to build a couple of years ago and I did it for about 15 months. The problem is that is it unrelated to my current industry and entrepreneurship is probably looked down upon. I'm also not sure how to go about proving it during a background check if it comes to that. Any thoughts?
General rule of thumb. Don't misrepresent what you were doing or it will catch up with you. I'd state exactly what you were doing - there are virtually no companies that do not want self starters. Not sure why you are concerned about this.
don't know about it, tell the truth, but a lot of entrepreneurs seem to jump from job to starting their own "company" then when it fails, they find another job again and repeat cycle. They just stick around enough until they have enough saved up to "strike" out on own again.
they get their "taste of being their own boss" and then it rubs them the wrong way when they work in an office so they leave as soon as they can. Long term people get a "taste of consistent paychecks" and they stick around.

I had a 16 year period of entrepreneurship before applying here, and managed to spin it into at least somewhat related experience. Being self-employed becomes more positive the longer it has lasted, giving the impression of success. With a short period less than two years it will not help you to mention it, but then you might have to explain the gap.

are you sure that an industry that looks down on entrepreneurship is right for you ?
Yeah, put it down. Of course. It shows gumption and creativity and how you spent that duration of your working life. Heck yeah! I did and I'm proud of it. Don't care what they think.
If you have a period of entrepreneurship and don't include it on your resume, you'd have a gap and that might be tough to explain.
