Ain't *that* the truth. When I try to explain to HR and Hiring Managers that my last two jobs were both two year contract jobs, I get deer in the headlight looks.

HR: Whaa? What is a contract temporary job? You mean you worked at one place for two years and then another place for two years? Huh? I don't get it. Did they fire you?

Me: No the contract ended. It was a two year contract job.

HR: Huh? So you are a job hopper?

Me: Yup, that is what I am, a dreaded job hopper who can only find temporary two year contract jobs, in this crappy economy. Kill me now.

HR: You are not the right FIT at this time. Next!

Yep. Except that was me years ago with all the work study jobs. I kept trying to explain it was work study and it ended when the semester ended. Same thing with the graduate assistantship. It ended when the semester ended. They insisted I was a job hopper.

I never got lucky with temp agencies. One did get me a one day temp job as a waitress, supposedly, in another town. Was supposed to get little over $2/hour plus tips. I got there and they worked me in the back for that same little bit with no tips and the work clothes I paid for out of pocket cost more than what I made.

Other temp places weren't able to place me anywhere. I signed up for first temp place around 1997 and one of those didn't get me anything until that restaurant thing in 2008. I scored high on every test I was ever given and was still turned down. I gave up on temp places back in 2009.

This can and does happen to people that get hired directly.

You'll love this - back in 2006, I was employed with several temp agencies (probably around 10). On my resume, I put "Various Temporary Agencies", the dates, and what my title was. One of the hiring managers actually said to me, "I've never heard of this company called Various Temporary Agencies, what do they do?" I thought he was joking and I probably had a deer in the headlights look myself. I responded, "You're joking, right?" He said, "No." He was dead serious. So, I went on to explain to him what temporary agencies are.

HAVE THESE PEOPLE NEVER HAD A DAMN TEMP IN THEIR OFFICE BEFORE???? How could you NOT have heard of temporary agencies or temps? : smack:
