I received an offer last Friday via the Taleo system. I was given access to a new tab that appeared on my profile, I was able to sign all the paperwork and view/accept offer. After accepting and signing all the required forms, I patiently waited for the next steps. After 4 days, I contacted the company recruiter about next steps. He never responded.
I logged into the Taleo system and I noticed that the tab to view offer, etc disappeared. I can't get in touch with the recruiter either.
This probably means I've been rejected correct? My current level of frustration and disappointment is unlike anything I've ever seen.
So the only way you knew of the offer was through the Taleo system? No actual person contacted you and you just noticed a tab about an offer?
If I saw that I'd not touch it until I heard from someone.
No. I received a verbal offer. I was given instructions to complete all the forms in the tasks tab. I was able to view my offer, benefits booklet, employee handbook, etc as well. Now the tab is no longer there. I've checked my current job's taleo system and I can still see the task button 4 years later with my offer letter.

We do our offers contingent on the reference and if needed, background check. Withdrawal of the offer is rare, but does happen. There are also other circumstances such as a reorganization, or budget issues that could cancel a new position, again rare. We will always call and follow up with a letter, however, not leave people hanging.
I would never consider an offer to be serious until it was set up in writing, with a firm start date. Revocation is not common at this point, due to the written nature of it and possible lawsuits due to detrimental reliance once a candidate has given notice to their current employer if they have one.
An offer means nothing until you are on the job working. I have seen them revoked for all kinds of reasons, usually with traumatic results for the candidate that already quit their other job.
Did you receive a written offer yet? Do not give notice until you receive the written offer and received confirmation you have passed the background check.
Heard of someone who moved about 1000 miles to another city, handed in their notice, had a leaving night and had an apartment rented out in New City and then the job offer was revoked for whatever reason. Not sure if they got their expenses but they had beg for their old job back, and got it back.
There must have had a contract for them to move, but you have to be careful with employers - A recruitment agency told me not to tell anyone about your new job other than old employer until your actually sitting at your desk in the new job because other agencies will ensure someone better is put in your place.
This maybe what happens, a preferred candidate comes back on the market.
