I had a short interview today, that lasted maybe fifteen minutes. BUT, I was already friends with the person I was interviewing with and he knew my background for the most part since we are in the same social circles, and he knew I knew the job description so there was no real need to go over either. He asked two questions and so did I, he was really impressed by one of the questions I asked. I made some friendly small talk in between. He gave me specific dates about when they'd like the chosen candidate to start and what the next steps will be (second round interview). He asked for a writing sample too. I was just wondering if I should be concerned by the length of the interview since short interviews generally aren't a good sign. Overall I thought it went well but you never know. I also got the impression he didn't have many candidates lined up after me, Idk if that makes a difference.

If it felt good to you, it probably was. When you are getting that we are behaving like good friends vibe, that is good.

Now you have to let us know what the question was that was impressive?

Haha sure, I asked what they envision a successful candidate for the position would look like. I always get good reactions whenever I ask it.

While it is a good question, be careful with this one. Many companies are dysfunctional and simply do not know what success looks like. So that question will get on the nerves of some people because they are looking for "Yes Men" and not for people who are actually focused on improving things.
