I'm moving back across the country and am looking for ways to have a job to start once I get there. No I'm not with any big fancy company that can move me,but my most recent company does have openings across the country...whether they'll take me on is up in the air. I have to re-apply I think to the new area, not sure if they can just transfer me. Besides,we're not on the best terms so I assume I'm on my own once again.
Aside from that, what are other things I can do to try to set something up from across the country?

Any job worth having will likely at some point require an in-person interview. So, my advice, apply away but be prepared to fly into town. There's your truth.

And they're not paying for the flight either.

In addition, employers practice geographic discrimination - if you're out of town, you're out of luck.

That's not always true at all.

OP there are ways to interview someone who isn't local. Ever heard of tele or video conferencing? If there's interest there's a way.

OK, this one's a stretch but just for grins...I once landed a job after an interview via two-way shortwave radio on top of a 10 second phone relay satellite lag. Yelling back and forth with "over" at the end of every reply. It can be done.

Last year, I lived in Texas. I made 3 trips to Ohio on employers' nickels last year. They paid for airfare, lodging and ground transportation. The third one offered me a job and I'm now working in Ohio. I'm not even a manager, but I do have special skills that made me a good candidate for the jobs.

YMMV, especially if there are plenty of local people who can do the job you're looking for.

I've had that happen a couple times too so I know it can be done, but it was more local. Long distance is something I guess I'm just going to have to see....

This would be back in the Philadlephia area, and 4 years ago when I was there it was still pretty competetive so I'm not looking for the luck that you had.

I've been hired site unseen and would do it again. But if I were employed I would not do it. What is your industry?
