I can only comment on nieces and nephews, who haven't had a problem finding a job. They all graduated from state schools in the Midwest that were reasonable in price:

1) B.S Elementary Education-Teacher
2) B.S. in Marketing-Client Development Manager
3) B.S. in Computer Science-Systems Admin
4) B.S. in Forensic Chemistry-Lab Technician at a drug testing laboratory

I'm sure it depends too on where in the country you live.

My experience has not been very good. I'm looking 2.5 years now (but I currently have a job so it's not dire … still very frustrating to say the least)

Totally agree. They all live in the Chicago area.

I am 54, have been laid off twice but never been out of a job for more than a few weeks. (I work in IT). Things that help are having high demand skills, and I hate to say it but part of surviving in today's dysfunctional job market also requires some good sales skills, which doesn't come naturally for everyone.
