Got a phonecall from HR today that they're sending me the Tentative Selection Notice!

JFS guy says this is the formal offer I've been waiting for and, pending fingerprinting and background check, I'm in!

Awesome! Congrats!!!

How long did your background check take? I am curious because I applied for a state hospital position. I received an email saying I got a conditional offer pending background check/fingerprinting, and medical evaluation. I completed all those steps this past Monday. I am hoping it only takes a week or so to complete.

I'm not sure. They told me fingerprinting is on hold for a few weeks due to COVID. So I received my official offer without being fingerprinted.

I got my tentative selection notice on April 21st and got my official notice on the 23rd.

How'd you onboarding process go? Did you finally start? Get a permanent postion?

Most supervisors will actively look out for you and point you toward jobs and openings that are available. Part of my job is to grow my replacement. I could go to my boss tomorrow and say "I'd like to try job X in location Y", (assuming there's a job there), and he'd pass my resume along.

At least in places where I've worked.
29 year Fed retiree here.....this was always my experience. I often forwarded vacancy announcements to my subordinates if I thought they would be interested.

Wait, you said it was "tentative" - and they skipped that and went directly to "firm offer"?

Tentative means that you don't have a job offer, you're just a final candidate, subject to background check.

Firm offer means you got the job, all you have to do is accept.

Indeed I did!

I was hired on full-time permanent back in December for a GS5 Fluid Minerals NRS position in the same district for which I was hired on temp-seasonal.

1301 Physical Scientist, it's a 5-7-9 position.

My supervisor is going to put in for a promotion to GS7 when I get my one year in June - June-Dec as a GS5 temp/seasonal and then Dec-Jun as my full-time perm GS5. Fingers crossed it goes through as I could use the extra income.

Just had my LINCpass adjudicated and printed, so hopefully I'll finally have one in a few weeks.

Yes, I got the tentative offer first and then a few days later got the firm offer.
