I'm at work - it will be during work, and I do not have a car with me to go out to...I'm Downtown...tons of coffee shops but lots of people yelling "Vente Non Fat Latte"

Where is the best spot - I need to make a GOOD impression and have the capabilities to talk candidly.

A park, a bar, a friend's office/car? You could probably find somewhere in the library too. Or somewhere in a hotel...

Maybe you could rent-a-car that day!? I think the car is the best bet. A coffee shop would be okay, they should understand you had to make time during your day for them and you work. Maybe a quiet fast food place would be better, you could sit far away from the counter and other people. hmmm...perplexing question! I had a call back phone interview today (not planned) I stepped outside my office and paced around the parking lot!

I would "borrow" a friend's car to sit in. I did all my phone interviews in the middle of my school day, just going out into my car. It's quiet and predictable, and takes the least amount of time to get to.

You might try to find a quiet place in the building (explore beforehand) that doesn't get a lot of foot traffic.

A locked men's room if they have one.

Or go sit in a hotel lobby. Explain to the person you are interviewing with you are on your lunch break and apologize for any background noise they hear.

If you are not comfortable with that; call out sick for the day and call from home.

Thanks for the ideas

Hotel is a good one - we have a ton of those around

I'm trying not to call in sick - in case I have to fly out for a couple days for an inperson interview

THANKS!

If you can walk to a park, find a quiet isolated grass area (under a tree) and bring a blanket you can sit on. Just make sure you are not in a flight path as those planes sure can drown a conversation. If you can walk to a pier/boardwalk or such, there's another idea. Best of luck!

not the library... that's rude.

I'd agree with the hotel suggestion.

I like the hotel situation as well. I think that is the best spot of all. Find a nice quiet corner in a large hotel lobby. It would be a relaxing environment moreso than the others. Plus you would not have to worry about some LARGE party coming in and sitting right beside you. Hotel lobbies have seating areas spread out.
