I had a 30-minute WebEx interview with the hiring manager for a job that I want so badly. At the 28 minute mark, the hiring manager tells me that we're almost out of time and he's about to go over the next steps with me and my internet cuts out. I try to refresh the video call and by the time it finally works, he's already logged out.
Did my bad internet reception lose me this job? I'm worried that it looks extremely unprofessional and my chances of moving forward are close to zero. I called the interview coordinator and they emailed my direct recruiter and the hiring manager letting them know what happened (I was never given the hiring manager's email). What do you think?
I was interviewing for a position and speaking with the VP over zoom on my phone.
An incoming call I rejected somehow messed up the zoom session. It took me a minute or 2 to reconnect.
They offered me the job.
Things happen. Any normal person would have understanding
I think it will be fine. If not, maybe that is a good thing because it tells you what kind of person that manaflger is.
Send a gracious note thanking them for their time and apologize for the technical difficulties, give them your email/phone number and let them know you're willing to continue the discussion per their convenience. Cross your fingers that that is enough. I once did an interview on my old crappy laptop and it kept crashing so I didn't hear back from them but this doesn't sound like a dealbreaker to me.
Things sometimes happen at the worst possible times. You did the right thing by contacting the interview recruiter and explaining the situation to them. If you don’t hear anything in a few days, I’d follow-up. The fact that the hiring manager mentioned next steps, sounds pretty positive to me. Good luck.
