My moms boyfriend lost his job 6 months ago as Pest Control hes is 54. He finally lost his house last month and had to sell his truck and car and everything he had. I ended up buying his guns from him to help him out. He now lives with us and went on a drinking binge and hit a car last week and got a DUI. So now he cant drive anywhere, has a record for DUI, is 54, and has been unemployed for 6 months. I dont think he'll ever get a job. We cant support him any more. But he has no where to go.
Sounds like he needs a kick in the pants. He may have more problems than you realize if all that was lost in 6 months. I'd tell mom to look for anther one.
An aquintance of mine committed suicide a couple of weeks ago. She was in the same boat I'm in; no job, no chance of propably being able to find a job, and not a lot of savings. She was 44 and had to use her savings (401k) When she ran out of money she shot herself. Just prior to killing herself she sent many of us an email explaining why she felt she had to do this. She refused to live on the streets!!! I may end up in her shoes as well. Like her I refuse to live on the streets. I'm too old and how would I even eat? No $$, no food; you would die on the streets in no time. I feel certain that many people especially older single females will, or have already committed suicide due to the economy causing them unbearable hardship.
Not a solution! Because after you die you will suffer in eternal Hell for suicide, which is far worse than being alive and on the streets! You should pack up and move in to a relative before going homeless! And try gov aid!
God, if you believe in him, does not cast you into Hell if you commit suicide as long as you ask for his forgivness. This is according to the Christian faith. All Christians are sinners and who of us should judge who's sin is worse than there's. That's up to God. Hospitals are for sick people; churches are for sinners. Of course God does not want us to do that, but if you don't have relatives to run to, or if they don't want you plus the gov aid would not help me and they were rude as well. The state I live in is not big on helping people and you should see the filthly place (apartment) you would have to live in. What other choices do you have, especially if you're an older person? Should you die on the streets instead? That's a horrible way to die.

I am not going to say there is an easy fix here, however, there are fixes. Where I live there are shelters. Oh sure, they may be scary, but I have a friend who does homeless outreach. Sets them up with social services so they can get back on their feet. What about finding someone who needs a roommate for a minimal amount of money? Can you do handyman work? Maybe you could barter some services with people for a place to stay?
Now that help and hope ARE on the way with Obama, please hang in there anyone who might be thinking of suicide. Things will get better down the road.

Movin'On, Thank you for your advice. I do hope you are right about Obama.
I'm too old to be living in a shelter, and I'm loner who prefers living by myself especially after some of the expereinces I've had. I would be miserable living with a stranger. One of the times I tried it in CA and it turned out he was dealing cocaine. He sure fooled me since he did not look the type, but you never know about people. All 3 of his renters (all females) moved out as soon as we discovered this. Than I moved in with a lady I met at church. She was going through my belongings and bringing men home, plus she drank like a fish (always drunk.) I could write a book about living with people. I've experienced just about everything. So I will never ever again move in with a stranger. I'm praying for a miracle.
