Ok, here's the deal, I have been looking for employmnet casually (as I do have 2 jobs but my hours have been greatly reduced) and have applied for some positions that I know I am overqualified for just to try to get in easy as no one (my self included) likes trying to get a job. I am pretty sure I do not go in like a know it all , just a person sincere about wanting to work at said company. I have heard a couple of " we need to interview more people........" (It's not a no but you're the 1st person Ive talked to and the hiring process is expensive, we want to make sure we do it right. etc. etc.) Duh, doens't that mean they're not into me or they 'd save time on thier search knowing they got the right person? (time is money, don't waste it talking to so many people when you've got a good one right here!)This is frustrating! What is usually the kiss off line you guys have heard? Any feedback would be appreciated. thank-you.
As a former HR person of 13 years I would like to say that this does not always mean we are not "into you".
A great many corporations etc REQUIRE that you speak to "x amount" of people. Many is the time I have found the person I personally felt would be perfect. Only to be required to interview more by my superiors. Then after all that time is wasted. Some times this took a couple weeks to a month I would find the person I originally wanted was no longer interested.
Makes you want to scream.
This is also used because some micro managing idiot wants you to interview everyone but will not actually give you the right to do the hiring without their approval. In the several days or weeks of interviewing they end up finding a friend of a friend less qualified and wnt you to hire them anyway.
Also many places have a policy of hiring from within. Most are not forced to do so by union either. They post the job. Take apps then after all this grueling process a current employee decides to take the job.
I would rather work in a poultry processing plant as be forced to be in HR again

Yes, I also heard the same. However, as another poster said, that may indeed be the situation. But today for every position there are 1000 applicants, so what your chances really are?
There is another one. A company opens a position, advertises in newspapers, websites, ect. It collects hundreds or thousands of applications, interviews, then interviews some more. They also let headhunters compete and bring them more applicants. After 3 months of intense search, everything goes cold. You cannot get any answer. Then, you find that they either hired someone from inside or, all new hiring was frozen...I had at least a couple of these when I was one of 3 finalists, only to find that they hired a... contractor.
Yeah, I don't know what the deal is (this is the OP) She kind of mumbled after we need 2 interview more people, it's not a no, you could still be hired as this or that. BS, I think. I just don't get it. What do you guys think? thank-you 4 all replies .
HR lady (former) I wish if they came back, I could have something else and not be interested. It feels really bad 2 B over qualified and not have them jump at the chance to hire you.
Some companies will not hire someone who is over qualified because they figure you will jump ship as soon as the job market opens up again....
I will say the company I retired from would ALWAYS send a post card to every one who interviewed, within two weeks, and let them know where they stood. That takes the worry and wonder off the applicant, and I really respected them for that.
When I originally interviewed with them many years ago, I received a card saying I didn't finish first, but my application would be kept on file. A few day later I received a call telling me the first pick failed his physical, so I was hired and worked there for over 20 years, retired and a manager. So never give up..!

"We don't have any jobs right now that are a good fit for your skill set but we'll keep your application on file for six months and if something comes up, we'll call you."
You know what file they put it in. The ROUND file.

If I were in your shoes, I'd have told the perfect candidate "you're the perfect person for this job, I want to hire you, but I am obligated by company policy to interview some more people. Don't go anywhere- as soon as I'm done, I'm hiring you."
I've had this said to me too, but it has worked out for me too. I've had a interviewer tell me she truly enjoyed talking to me and thought I was perfect for the position. However, this was the first day of interviews and would not be able to begin next round of interviews until 2 weeks later when they were done with the first round. 2 weeks later, I got a call asking me to come back again for interviews. But of course, there were times when I never heard from the employer again.
